On the hardwood in the Eastview gym last night, the junior boys basketball team battled the St Pete’s Panthers for supremacy in junior boys basketball in the GBSSA final match.   And what a game it was.  The wildcats emerged shaky in the first quarter, not able to find their rhythm and being caught off guard by the improvements that St Petes had made in their defense this season. The cats had to dig deep to ward off the attack of the panthers with their lethal three point shooting that brought them within one point of the wildcats heading into the second half.  The cats struggled to maintain their composure in the third quarter and finally found their offensive groove going into the fourth, with some key three pointers from both Liam Alexander and Cal McArthur who added 12 and 16 points respectively.   Gibby Grigoriadis literally shut down the Panthers best player and the defensive wall of Patrick Nightingale and Darius Kent allowed nothing into the paint.  Jayden Scobie led both teams on the boards, creating transition offense that the wildcats desperately needed.   James Nightingale’s dangerous left handed hook shot allowed Eastview to take control of the game in the final minute.  In the end, the wildcats, came away as champions, with a final score of 54-47, due largely to their patience and determination that has been with them all season.  Their never die attitude and their willingness to claw their way to victory all season is what earned them the fitting title of GBSSA Champions. An absolutely incredible season boys.  Your coaches are so proud of you for the athletes you’ve become and the ambassadors you are for the sport.   Please congratulate the junior boys team when you see them in the hallways and in the classrooms for a job very well done.   Team dinner to follow.  Stay tuned!
