Wednesday January 23rd

The Simcoe County busses were cancelled today.  The school will still be open for students to come in and get help or review for the exams, if they can safely make it in.  Tomorrow will be start of exams as normallly scheduled.

Bell Let’s Talk Day is only 7 short days away on January 30.  Let’s all join the conversation on social media! Bell will donate 5 cents to mental health initiatives for every text, mobile and long distance call by Bell customers, tweet using #BellLetsTalk, social media video view, or use of the Facebook frame or Snapchat filter.
42% of Canadians were unsure whether they would socialize with a friend who has a mental illness. Being a good listener and asking how you can help, sometimes just being there for people you care about, can be the first step in recovery.
Listening and asking are simple actions we can all take to end stigma. Here are a few examples of what to say: “I’m sorry you aren’t feeling well. I’ve noticed you’ve seemed down lately. Is everything ok?”
If you think that you might be having a mental health issue or a friend is, please reach out to your teacher, guidance counsellor, our school social worker, or a principal. They’re here to listen.

Also, if you missed the follow-up lesson which explained how to get full marks on the main-idea reading section and how they mark the 6-line responses, please see Mrs. King.  She will be available to get you caught up because there will be limited time once semester two starts.  Thank you!

Tuesday January 22nd

On Bell Let’s Talk Day, January 30, Eastview will be joining the conversation around mental health.
On Bell Let’s Talk Day, for every text, mobile and long distance call by Bell customers, tweet using #BellLetsTalk, social media video view, or use of the Facebook frame or Snapchat filter, Bell will contribute 5 cents more to Canadian mental health programs.
Help end the stigma around mental illness. It’s easier than you think!
Language matters: The words you use can make all the difference. Words can help but they can also hurt. Explain to friends who use words like “psycho” or “crazy” without thinking, that their comments may be hurtful.
Together, the students at Eastview can help end the stigma around mental illness. Remember that our teachers, guidance counsellors, school social worker and principals are here to listen.

It’s a fact: One in five Canadians will suffer from mental illness at some point in their lifetime. One of the biggest hurdles for anyone suffering from mental illness is overcoming the stigma. It is the number one reason why two-thirds of those living with a mental illness do not seek help.  Bell Let’s Talk Day is Jan. 30 and all Wildcats are invited to join the conversation at let’stalk.bell.ca
