Please reach out to any adult in the building.  If that's a difficult thing to do, speak to a friend who can go with you to talk with a teacher, counselor, or administrator.  We have all kinds of expertise at ESS from our school social work support, to community agencies who visit the school to talk with students about addiction, depression, sadness, thoughts of suicide, and many other situations.  Being a teenager can be amazing but also very challenging with the ups and downs of everyday life and school. Oct 20 for the first team try out. Players are reminded that there is a 2 hour ice time starting at 3pm. this Wednesday.  Players will be split into 2 groups with Gr. 10's and Gr. 12's taking the first hour and Gr. 9's and Gr. 11's taking the second hour.  Please ensure that you are on the ice with your appropriate group. The outdoor locker room will be available for equipment storage during the day.  The door will be open at 7:45 to drop off your equipment and closed just prior to the first bell. Please see Mr. Wilson and Mr. Beer with questions. All boys intending to be on the ice for tomorrow's try outs are required to attend a mandatory meeting today at the start of lunch time in Rm. 217.  Repeat this is a mandatory meeting.<br><br>Attention Wildcats! We have space for a few more people if anyone is interested!<br><br><strong>Sr. & Jr. girls flag football</strong> intramurals will be rescheduled to Wednesday and travel team practice will be rescheduled to Thursday this week after school! <br><br>Girls interested in playing on the Eastview <strong>Girls </strong><strong>Varsity Hockey Team</strong> are asked to sign up on the sheet posted between the two gyms. First tryout will be Nov. 2 after school. Questions?  Please ask Coach Wilson in guidance or Coach Hargreaves.<br><br>The <strong>cross country team</strong> competed in their third and final league race this past Thursday, and some stellar performances were had.  The novice girls again placed first, and won the top novice girl team in overall standings for the season.  The girls success was led by Nari Hwang, who won the race, and strong performances by Katie, Claudia, Madeline, Brooke and Trinity. Christian and Ethan also made significant gains in their week over week performances. Oct 20 for the first team try out.<br><br>Last Friday the <strong>Eastview Junior Football</strong> team played its first home game of the season, and a supportive home crowd saw the WIldcats defeat the Collingwood Owls 30-13. Jake led the way with 3 TDs and Jaiden added another while Noal , Lucas and Ace added converts. Max, Carson, Riley and Graydon anchored the stout WIldcat defence. Next game is this Wednesday when we host the Innisdale Invaders.<br><br>Both <strong>junior and senior football teams</strong> practice today after school.<br><br>On Friday, our <strong>Junior girls’ footbal</strong>l team faced Nantyr Shores. Shoutouts to Bianca and Addi for helping us run the ball. Also, incredible interceptions by Amaya, Katie, and Shania! Also, credit to Bella for scoring a touchdown as well as Tinuke for breaking all of the girls’ ankles and scoring a touchdown. All of our teamwork paid off and helped us beat Nantyr 12-0!!<br><br>It’s Monday, Eastview!! That means it’s time for Inquisitor’s Club! Kickoff is at 3 p.m.!<br><br>Yesterday afternoon your Eastview <strong>Senior Football Team</strong> lost a toughly contested battle to the Barrie North Vikings. Despite leading at halftime, critical errors cost the Wildcats in the second half. Touchdowns were scored by Aaron, Zander and Jesse while Jon kicked all three extra points. The defense was led by Rob and Gio while Nolan , Jayden and Lucas provided strong play on the line. Next game is Wednesday when we host Innisdale on our field.<br><br>Attention all players interested in playing <strong>hockey</strong> this year. See you there Wildcats!<br><br><strong>Senior Boys Volleyball!</strong> Keeping the dream alive and keening their stronghold on the number one spot in the league, the boys had a monster win against Bear Creek last night, at home. Coming up with some big kills at the net we’re Ryan Vriezma, Graeme Gramps Galloway, Jack Twigsy Rowsell, Cooper Thing Two  DeHaan and Liam Alexander. It was a true team effort and every one of the boys should be proud of the game they played last night. Great job boys!<br><br></p><h1>Thursday, October 14</h1><p><br>The <strong>Senior Boys Football Team</strong> is dismissed at 10:45 today. Players should eat lunch, then get dressed for their game this afternoon at Barrie North Collegiate. All players should be ready to board the bus at 12:30 in the tech wing parking lot.<br><br>The <strong>non-competitive vocal ensemble</strong> meets at lunch today. We are now in room 204, which is the vocal room, right next door to where we used to be.<br><br>This is another reminder for all players wishing to try out for the <strong>Varsity Boys Hockey</strong> team, to complete and return the Concussion and the Player Information form to Mr. Wilson or Mr. Beer by Friday.  If no forms are submitted, you will not be allowed to participate in the first of 2 try outs starting next Wed. Oct. 20.<br><br>The <strong>Eastview EDI</strong> group will be meeting today at 11- please come to the office and new students are always welcome. <br><br>The<strong> jr and sr girls basketball team</strong>s travelled to Nantyr Shores yesterday to compete in league action.  Despite a rough start by leaving the Eastview parking lot and forgetting our newly appointed coach, Connor, it turned out to be a positive evening.  Coach Conner did manage to find his way to the gym the girls managed dominant wins in both games.  Great job ladies, see you at practice today.  Sorry Conner, it won’t happen again!<br><br></p><h1>Wednesday, October 13 </h1><p><br></p><p>Attention all Boys Interested in Attending <strong>Hockey</strong> Try-Outs: Please ensure that you pick up and return the Player Information and the Concussion forms from either Mr. Beer or Mr. Wilson.  These forms must be returned by the end of this week in order for you to be included on the try-out list.  The first of two try-outs is tentatively scheduled for Wed. Despite some strong individual performances, the Wildcats made some costly mental mistakes and ended up on the short end of 23-12 score. Next week they head to Barrie North to take on the Vikings. </p><p><br>Last night the Eastview Wildcat <strong>Junior Football </strong>team took on their cross town rivals from Bear Creek. The defense , led by a huge game by Owen, kept the Kodiaks off the scoreboard until the final minute and dominated in the 14-7 Wildcats victory. Quarterbacks Jaiden and Hudson led the offense while touchdowns were scored by Jake and "Ace". Way to go WIldcats!<br></p><h1>​Wednesday, October 7</h1><p><br>The <strong>Visual Arts Club</strong> will be having its first session this Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30 in room 213 with Ms. Ferguson. There were some strong performances but a lot of rust as well and ultimately the Wildcats fell to the home squad from Innisdale. Next practice is Tuesday after school as we prepare to head to Bear Creek next Thursday. <br><br>All <strong>junior football</strong> players are dismissed today at 12:15 to get ready for their game this afternoon in Orillia. Players should be dressed and ready to board the bus by 1:15.<br><br>Congratulations to the<strong> senior boys volleyball</strong> team. They continued their win streak again Barrie North last night by taking them 3-0. Honorable mentions: Huge kills at the net by Ryan Vriezma pumped our boys up. Way to lead the team out of the set Luke Hendricks. Well done boys. <br><br>Hey Wildcats, Are you ready for the <strong>Grade Colour Competition</strong> today? Classes who are participating are asked to join us right after announcements. Teachers, make sure you know your starting station and rotational direction. The juniors won in dominant fashion with a 40 point victory.  We are starting to see some good things from both teams. Let’s keep the upward trajectory! See you in the gym after school!<br><br>Today we honour the lives lost at residential schools across Canada and stand with the survivors. Wearing our orange shirts or the orange ribbons on <strong>Truth and Reconciliation Da</strong><strong>y</strong>, allows us to honour and recognize the 150,000 Indigenous children who endured the residential schooling system and its trauma that continues to affect people today.<br><br>We thank everyone who wore an orange shirt today as a symbol of honour and respect to the survivors and the ones who did not return home.<br><br></p><h1>Wednesday, September 29<br></h1><div><br></div><div>Congratulations goes out to the<strong> Senior Tennis Team</strong> who competed in yesterday’s GBSSA qualifier. The dynamic duo of Ava and Megan showed perfect form by cruising to first place in Girls doubles . And, a valiant effort by the boys doubles team of Luis and Alfredo earned them a third place finish. Good luck to both teams as they travel to Collingwood next week for GBs.</div><div>No practice today. Bill was only 6 years old when he was taken to the Stoney Reserve Residential School in Alberta. Bill explains his story, "if we were caught speaking our own language in the school or in the classroom, we would get hit for it by the teachers or supervisors". Bill talks some more about how he and the other children were abused at the school both physically and mentally. After 7 years of being stuck at Stoney Reserve Residential School, Bill was taken away once again to Poundmaker's Residential School in Edmonton for another 3 years. Since his time there, Bill learned to forgive, and pass his forgiveness to his people. My whole life and everything changed drastically because of the different teachings. The boys were down in set 2: 22-19, but showed patience, skill and teamwork to take it 25-23. Great ace serves and kill shots by Ryan Vriezma and many points off the serve by Isaar M. Excellent passing on the whole, and we even had a soccer save by Liam Alexander for the point. Jack Rowsell played some great defence and Jordan James stepped it up in his first stint as a senior setter. A few key tips at the net and a Merry Christmas by Graeme Galloway netted a few more points for the Wildcats. Well done boys.
