Announcements Week of January 13http://eas.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/school-news/153Announcements Week of January 13
Friday, January 17

Bell Let’s Talk Day is only 12 days away on January 29. Let’s all join the conversation on social media! Bell will donate 5 cents to mental health initiatives for every text, mobile and long distance call by Bell customers, tweet using #BellLetsTalk, social media video view, or use of the Facebook frame or Snapchat filter.
42% of Canadians were unsure whether they would socialize with a friend who has a mental illness. Being a good listener and asking how you can help, sometimes just being there for people you care about, can be the first step in recovery. Listen and ask is the 4th simple action we can all do to end stigma. Here are a few examples of what to ask: I’m sorry you aren’t feeling well. I’ve noticed you’ve seemed down lately. Is everything ok? If you think that you might be having a mental health issue or a friend is, please reach out to your teacher, guidance counsellor, our school social worker or a principal. They’re here to listen

Good Morning, Eastview! A reminder that draft second semester timetables can be viewed through the Student Portal. Login to confirm that your draft timetable looks the way you need it to, for your pathway goals. In most cases, courses are very full and there will be limited opportunities for changes. A print copy of your timetable will be distributed on February 3.

The Varsity boys and girls Curling teams are reminded to bring their forms for Gore Regionals to Ms. Kelly. Additionally, the boys team is reminded of our game against Banting on Jan 29 at 3:30 and the girls practice the same day. Please see Ms. Kelly if you are unable to attend.

Good morning Eastview! Please be advised that the Library is reserved for the final Co-op in-school days next Tuesday and Wednesday, January 21st and 22nd, periods 2-5. This means the library is NOT available for independent student work on those dates! Plan accordingly! Also - remember to return ALL library materials ASAP! Thank you!

Please listen to a quick message from Chartwells. Please join us in the café for our Pacific Rim special. Chartwells offers new mouth-watering specials each day. Did you know that 27% of Canadians said they would be fearful of being around someone who suffers from serious mental illness? Be kind is the 3rd way that we can eliminate stigma. Simple kindness can make the world of difference. Whether it’s a smile or being a good listener, these simple acts of kindness can help open up the conversation and let someone know you are there for them. Expressions like “You’ll get over it” and “Just relax” can minimize how a person is feeling. Instead offer your support and say “I’m sorry you aren’t feeling well.” Ask what you can do to help. Remember that our teachers, guidance counsellors, school social worker and principals are here to listen.

Good Morning, Eastview! The girls faced tough competition in every game - the strength of girls volleyball in Barrie is far from basic. Alicia S. served up a storm and made many kills from the back row. Abby E. ran the court and set the pace of the game, with many ace serves and great sets. Megan L. hit the floor with tons of amazing defensive plays and saves, along with some killer attacks. Brooke Warsdell made some fantastic passes off of tough serves from the opponents. Ava W. for the win with her high pressure serves when the game hit 24 points! Ella S. and Quinn T. made some clutch plays from the right side and got the team points when needed. Good job to Sydney S. for her huge block against Nantyr, Scarlett B. for her big hit against JOA, Emma K. for her defensive scramble play against Bear Creek, Eva M. for her persistence on passing and clutch hit against JOA and Jordan s. for her amazing serves for the bronze medal. Hard work and positive game play girls, well done. Coaches are very proud of your efforts.

Good morning Eastview ! The level 1 girls won their 8th league race in a row with Sydney E. leading the way, winning her second race in 6 days. Right behind her was Abby M., Yuna S. and Ava K. who all finished in the top 10. Sydney S. raced to a 4th place finish and Reid M. posted a time good enough for 5th place in a large field of racers. Thank you to Hale M. for representing Eastview so well as race announcer! Great job Hale!

Yesterday the Eastview Cats faced off against the Collingwood Owls in Curling action. The boys fell behind in the first end but came back in the next 2 ends to take the lead at half time.
